The Wanderers came under fire in recent days after media reports claimed the club's supporters have made up 90 of the 198 bans across the league, despite the club only existing for little more than three seasons.

In defence of his club's image and the actions of thier fans, Wanderers chief executive John Tsatsimas took the extraordinary step of offering to challenge the governing body's heavy-handed approach to dealing with fans.

There are no avenues for spectators to appeal FFA infringement notices and stadiums bans despite many allegations of incorrect rulings and decisions made conflicting with police reports.

Supporters of Western Sydney Wanderers are the club most represented in existing FFA bans – not including any expired – almost tripling the number of the second highest club, Melbourne Victory. Though, In a letter sent to their members on Wednesday, Tsatsimas offered to assist any members who feel they have been wrongly banned by confronting the FFA on their behalf and challenging the existing system.

"We will always advocate for the rights of our members (in both public and private forums) who are exceptional in both their behaviour and their passion for this club and who have been branded unfairly in a negative manner," Tsatsimas said.

"This includes members who feel they are unjustly banned. Let's be clear – this is a serious subject and one that cannot be misrepresented or misinterpreted. If you do something that does not comply with the term of entry to any venue or the laws of this country, we will not support you. However, within the parameters of the system that is in place at FFA, if you feel you have been wrongly banned and have compelling evidence to support your claim please contact our office at info@wswanderersfc.com.au and bring this evidence forward and we will advocate on your behalf to the FFA."

On Sunday a News Corp publication claimed to have obtained documents of all members who have received FFA bans and published the identity of all 198 spectators, naming and shaming them for various offences ranging from swearing to fighting with weapons.

Of the banned spectators, few were charged of any crimes let alone convicted. Fairfax Media was made aware of a number of such cases including one where police released an alleged victim of an assault without charge who later received an FFA ban in the mail. It's understood some fans are considering legal action over the breach of confidentiality.

FFA chief executive David Gallop defended the organisation's approach to crowd problems, hitting back at suggestions there is a culture of denial.

"When The Sunday Telegraph contacted me about a leaked list of 198 people banned from attending matches in the Hyundai A-League, my reaction was to say 'what part of banning 198 people supports the allegation that FFA is in denial?'. The existence of the list says it all. We have repeatedly and publicly said that we will identify and ban those who engage in anti-social behaviour at A-League matches. The list is the proof," Gallop said.

The FFA will meet several supporter groups this week as well as police, venues and clubs amid current tensions. "FFA, in conjunction with police, A-League clubs and various security consultants, has systems in place to identify individuals who don't behave and don't belong," Gallop said.

FFA has become aware that Telegraph journalist Rebecca Wilson has received physical threats and death threats. The FFA said while these are matters for the police, the sport's governing body has called for these threats to cease.
