ANDY Campbell didn’t originally hold any ambition of playing in Sunday’s Blayney Open, let alone winning it.

“I wasn’t going to play, no, but a couple of guys I work with out at Nestle (in Blayney) were having a hit and Corbs (David Corby) said he’d pick me up at 8am Sunday morning, so I said righto,” the Duntryleague gun said.
“It was nice to come away with the win.”
Campbell shot a five over 107 to claim the 2015 open crown ahead of Penrith’s Steven King, who nailed a 27-hole scratch score of 111.
The victory was a breakthrough of sorts for Campbell.
He’s finished second twice throughout the 2015 open season, ending the Dubbo Open in second behind Ross Horrocks before Duntryleague clubmate Rob Parfett swooped to claim the Orange Ex-Services Country Club Open ahead of both Campbell and Central West big gun Robert Payne
“It’s nice. I think I’ve been playing well all open season,” he said.
“I’ve had a couple of seconds, so it’s nice to get a win. No one was really sure on who was where during the tournament.
“After 18 (Blayney Golf Club president) Mick Miskell said there weren’t many good scores and I was four over. We didn’t really know where we sat until the end.”
It’ll be Campbell’s one and only open win for the year too.
He’s working during this weekend’s Wentworth Open, where a strong field is expected to attend in the hope of claiming the last open title on offer this calendar year.
Aside from Campbell’s raid on the top gong, the rest of the Blayney Open’s awards went to home golfers.
Mark Peterson claimed B grade with a scratch score of 114, while Wayne Fenwick finished second with a score of 115 over 27 holes.
In C grade, Ted Bell’s score of 127 was good enough to snag the scratch total in commanding fashion, nine shots ahead of the rest of the 2015 field.
