Played at Waratah Sportsground, the City of Orange Touch Association’s 10 junior representative outfits were exceptional, with all 10 making it through to their respective age group’s grand final.
Six of those 10 teams went on to win the championship.
Thunder administrator Tracee Honeyman echoed the sentiment of the entire Orange touch football community when she described such dominance as a remarkable feat.
“It’s always the goal,” Honeyman said, with the Thunder sides all aiming to be part of their respective deciders.
“But to have all 10 of our sides make the grand final is a wonderful achievement.”
The Orange under-16 boys’ side won its grand final 7-3 over Parkes, while the under-16 girls’ side claimed a 6-1 triumph over Parkes as well.
Respectively, Lachlan Wilson and Cheynoah Merchant claimed player of the final awards.
In the under-14 boys’ division, Orange won 6-3 over Wellington - Ben Blimka was named player of the final - while the Thunder under-14 girls were also successful, claiming a 7-3 victory over Mudgee. Ella Robbins was the player of the final.
Holly Board was named the best player in the final after the under-12 girls’ team capped an undefeated tournament with a dominant 8-nil grand final win over Wellington.
And in the under-10 boys’ grand final, Orange trumped Dubbo 4-2 to claim victory.
Although her side went down 2-1 against Wellington in the under-18 girls’ decider, Thunder’s Tamika Tamatea was named the player of the final.
Orange also went down in the under-10 girls’, under-12 boys’ and the under-18 boys’ grand finals 10-3 against Dubbo, 6-1 against Dubbo and 7-2 against Parkes, respectively.
