Erratic Browden full of potential

THE Garry Frazer-trained Browden has put all the frustration and erratic behaviour of the last week behind him to rocket home and win the $15,000 Coca-Cola Amatil CG&E Maiden Handicap (1300m) at Towac Park yesterday.

In the first TAB meeting for Racing Orange this season, the four-year-old stormed wide to secure the one-and-a-half length win over the Paul Theobald-trained Goodfa and Lord Burghersh, a further head back.

The Hawkesbury-based Frazer said the win, his gelding’s first in two starts and just a week after bucking and eventually tailing off behind the winner on debut at Hawkesbury, was a satisfying one to leave Orange with.

“He has been a bit of a handful as you probably know,” Frazer said.

“We’ll just take it one step at a time.”

Browden ($13), ridden by apprentice hoop David Pisani, jumped the gates at Towac Park slowly, with Seven Wonders ($6), Volcano ($4) and Kosciuszko Moon ($8) all making use of the good three track conditions early on.

But at the 1000m mark all three began to dip back in the field, with early favourite All Black Grit ($3.60) and Goodfa ($26) making their run at the win with the Wayne Hudd-trained Lord Burghersh ($4.20) close behind.

It wasn’t until the home straight that Browden begun to make his move.

Largely out of the running over the initial 1000m, Browden left his move until late in the piece as Goodfa, Lord Burghersh and All Black Grit continued to steam ahead.

But a week after being named one of the favourites on debut only to buck and tail off to run last, Browden flew home over the final furlong at Orange to grab his first win from Goodfa and Lord Burghersh.

“The win was good he was never on the track really and just kept getting into line. The win was good,” Frazer added.

“He’ll be better later on over more ground.

“David rode him in a trial for me so he was entitled to ride him in the race.”

Sylvia Zsabo’s Heretothemoon ran second in the Racing Orange Membership on Sale F&M Benchmark 50 Handicap over 1000m late yesterday.
