FRIDAY night's Cinema Under the Stars at the Orange Botanic Gardens has been postponed.
Predicted wild weather has forced organisers to delay the event until Friday, December 4.
"The good news is that we have a new date already and all other details are the same," Ashleigh Killingly said.
THURSDAY, 4am:
ORANGE Botanic Gardens will become an outdoor cinema for a screening of Big Hero 6 on Friday night as part of the third annual Cinema Under the Stars.
Sponsored by Newcastle Permanent, last year’s event attracted 3500 people and Orange branch lending manager Erin McVicar said she hoped to equal or surpass the figure this year.
“I know it was that many because I was on the popcorn stand pumping it out, it was really fun,” she said.
She said the event’s atmosphere harked back to the drive-in movies of decades past and it kept returning to Orange because of community support.
“There’s a lot of young families in Orange and it’s an enjoyable night to get out with the kids,” she said.
Big Hero 6 tells the story of a robotics prodigy who forms a superhero team with his friends and his robot companion Baymax to fight a masked villain.
The film is rated PG and entry is free.
Miss McVicar said the movie was for the kids.
“But it’s one of those movies where there’s a bit of adult humour,” she said.
Entertainment, including children’s musician Matt Zarb, will start at 5.30pm and the movie will start at sunset.
Guests are encouraged to bring a picnic, and food and non-alcoholic drinks will also be available for purchase at the gardens.
The Cinema Under the Stars program will travel to 16 locations across northern NSW this year.
