Miss Bird is currently one of four New South Wales contestants who will be judged in Sydney on November 23 with the winner from each state going into the finals, which will also take place that week.
It is the 179 centimetre tall, 21-year-old’s first modelling competition and she is hoping the posture and poses she has learnt as a ballet dancer will help her in the event.
“It’s very exciting,” she said.
“I’ve done a lot of dance modelling before and I modelled for the Australian National Field Days in 2009 but that’s the extent of any actual modelling at the moment.
“[Modelling is] definitely something I’ve been interested in for a while, dance has been my career, that’s what I’ve been aiming at since I was nine.”
Miss Bird currently teaches at Colour City Dance and has finished more than four years of study including an advanced diploma of performing arts in Perth followed by a bachelor of performing arts in dance, which she graduated from several months ago.
Although she still enjoys dance and would like to dance with a company overseas and has her eye on New York, Miss Bird said she also sees career possibilities with modelling.
“It’s something I can take anywhere, it has amazing travel opportunities, I’m interested in labels and I’m interested in fashion,” she said.
In the lead-up to the November 23 judging she said she is focusing on making sure her skin looks good by eating a healthy diet, and she is also putting a lot of focus on her outfit and said it’s important it matches her positive and outgoing personality.
