YOUNG GUN: Year 10 Orange High School student Joey Thorley is an athlete with a bright future after he ran his best ever time to win a bronze medal in the NSW Combined High Schools Sports Association championship in Sydney.
JOEY Thorley just keeps running faster and faster.
The Orange High School student set a personal best time in taking out bronze in the boys’ 16 years 1500 metres at the NSW Combined High Schools Sports Association championship in Sydney last week.
Thorley ran four minutes and 18.81 seconds to finish on the podium behind both Keiraville High School’s Evan Johnston (4:13.65) and Blaxland High School’s Daniel Keene (4:13.13), with the two fighting it out in a sprint finish for the gold.
Thorley was rapt with his efforts in the red-hot field.
“That was the goal, to get a medal,” Thorley said.
“I was extremely happy with the way I ran.”
A long distance specialist, Thorley now has his sights set on another personal best at the NSW All Schools next month after dominating at western level and then claiming the bronze at the NSWCHS championships.
The year 10 student was hopeful of claiming another medal but insists there was no pressure to perform at the next level.
“I’m going in with no expectations,” he said.
As well as being a runner, Thorley also enjoys playing rugby league.
