ORANGE manager Dennis Shrimpton says his side’s 2015 Hockey NSW Under-15 Girls’ Indoor State Championship division two campaign has been a success.
The Orange girls finished the tournament in third place, and Shrimpton believes this year’s campaign has the potential to launch the side into a commanding indoor hockey position for years to come.
“The team had four girls who’d never played indoor hockey before, so to come third is great,” Shrimpton said.
“We came up against a pretty polished side in the semi-final.”
Polished is an understatement.
After putting together a reasonably sound pool A stage - recording two wins, a draw and one loss - Ellen Van Hoek’s indoor side had every reason to believe a semi-final victory was within grasp.
But a sterling performance from pool B guns Manning Valley resulted in a 7-1 loss for the Orange outfit.
“They were outstanding,” Shrimpton added.
“But Ellen was very pleased with the way the girls played throughout the whole tournament. For a side that hasn’t played much together, some at all, to perform like they did was great.”
Orange recorded a 2-nil win over Bathurst in their championship opener, before recording a resounding 4-nil victory over North Sydney (2).
Orange lost to Grafton (1) 5-2 before recoding a 2-all draw with Tamworth to scrape through to the semi-finals.
Confederates gun Sarah Barrett was the side’s players’ player.
