After nearly 10 years making wine, Charlie and Loretta Svenson have enjoyed a fruitful 12 months.
The owners of De Salis Wines have picked up a host of recommendations in the June edition of Winewise, the consumer wine guide.
Mr Svenson said their 2009 chardonnay was named the most outstanding chardonnay.
They also picked up highly recommended awards for their 2010 chardonnay.
This follows the Gourmet Traveller’s claim they were one of the top three cellar doors in Orange, winning a host of awards at the Orange Wine Show and several reviews scoring their wines more than 90 points out of 100.
“After a great deal of hard work, no holidays and juggling both full-time work and wine making, we’re beginning to see the fruits of our labour,” Mr Svenson said.
“It has felt like each month this year we have received yet another positive review for one of our wines, which is really encouraging and helps promote both De Salis Wines and the Orange wine region as a whole.”
Mr Svenson said the secret to making wonderful wine was a tender touch and a love of the product.
“A lot of it comes down to knowing your vineyard.
We started making wine here in 2002 and it took a few years to understand how to work with the site, the grapes and fruit and the vineyards.We feel we’re starting to get there,” he said.
“At the moment the chardonnay has been fantastic. It seems to be back in favour and Orange as a whole is becoming renowned for making great chardonnay.”
Mr Svenson said De Salis Wines was looking forward to participating in Orange Wine Week, and showing off some of their award-winning products.
He is also excited about the challenges the next harvest is set to bring.
