But in 2015, things are getting a little more interesting.
“We’re adding a number of mystery events for this year, which will hopefully keep a few competitors guessing,” co-ordinator Jason Lyne said.
“There will be a few events people haven’t seen before, which we’re excited about.”
Keeping the mystique of the games firmly in check, Lyne was not revealing too much ahead of next month’s crowning of the king and queen of sport, which officially begins with nominations for this year’s event on Saturday at the Royal Hotel on Lords Place.
With places for 30 kings and 30 queens on their books, Eight Day Games organisers were “very confident” of having a full quota of competitors leading into the November 14 start date for the event.
Leading the charge again will be reigning champions Simon Wright and Nicole Williamson.
In a year littered with three-peats - there’s the Orange Tigers and Hawthorn Hawks, who’ve both claimed back-to-back-to-back crowns - Wright and Williamson are the latest sporting goliaths preparing to secure hat-tricks after Eight Day Games wins in 2013 and 2014 previously.
“They’re back again,” Lyne said, a worrying thought for a number of hopefuls.
“There’s always the likes of Marshy (Andrew Marsh), Adam Savage, Anthony Wharton and Jono Punch is in the top four or five every year, and Cathy Johnson I’m still waiting to hear from, but I’m confident she’ll be there again.”
It all points towards a strong field for the 2015 event, one that takes the games into their 39th year.
The games will again feature clay target shooting, croquet, bow hunting, swimming and athletics, and Lyne believes it’s the wide array of competition that keeps people keen to be part of the games.
“It’s a great week with great people,” he added.
Entry fee is $95, which covers all sports, and nominations begin from 8.30am at the Royal Hotel on Saturday, October 10.
