Deb Orrock’s NSW over-55 side will play in the grand final against hosts Queensland on Saturday at 11.50am.
While Kerrie Wood’s over-60 blues outfit is careering towards a hugely impressive campaign, having only conceded one goal in the lead-up until last night’s semi-final against the fourth-placed Victoria and must surely be a chance of sweeping all before them on their way to the final.
“Of course we’re a chance,” NSW manager Jane Rowlands said.
“NSW is always a chance, and we’ve gone through undefeated so far. We’re hoping to maintain that momentum for the rest of the championships.”
Orange Ex-Services Premier League Hockey defender Mel Hope and Naomi Sparks are with the NSW over-40 side, which is still fighting it out for a gold medal against top-placed Queensland but with just two games to go faces an almost insurmountable deficit in the first-past-the-post format.
Hope and the NSW over 40s will more than likely end the championships in second.
Formerly of Orange, Parkes’ Amy Thornberry is the second goalkeeper for NSW over-35 team, a side that currently sits in third place and will likely play-off in the third-versus-fourth game tomorrow.
