They hope to raise at least $18,000-$20,000 on Friday to support the family in their plight to modify their car so it can lift Ms Lucas’ wheelchair.
Born with the genetic disorder Cornelia de Lange Syndrome, 22-year-old Ms Lucas was underweight at birth and has experienced delayed growth in many developmental areas since.
She’s now fed through a peg tube in her stomach and requires 24-hour care.
With no government funding for transport equipment and not-for-profit health services having a ‘no lift’ client policy, Ms Wicks hopes the community can help her find the $40,000 she needs for a wheelchair-accessible vehicle.
Keen golfer Tony Leahey said his regular golf friends were inspired by an initial story in the Central Western Daily about Ms Lucas’ situation and wanted to do what they could to help.
“I saw the story and it didn’t sound like things were going too well,” Mr Leahey said.
The golf day will be held at Duntryleague, and will be an 18-hole, four person ambrose event, with a 12:30pm shotgun start.
There will be a silent auction, closest to the pin prizes, and includes lunch from 11am, canapes and entry onto the course.
Entry costs $100, is fully tax deductible and can be made up until lunchtime on Friday .
“We’ve had tremendous support from the community, it should be a really good day.”
Booking sheets are available at the club on Woodward Street or by calling 6362 4072.
Kyah will be at the club house from about 10am to 12pm.
