Happy ending: police have found three teenagers who were lost in the forest.
ORANGE police were called to search for three children who went missing in Kinross State Forest on Friday night.
Two boys aged 12 and 14 years old and a girl aged 13 called triple-0 at 9.30pm to say they were lost in the forest.
Inspector Bruce Grassick said the children said they had gone to the forest on their own on a camping trip.
“They decided to go camping with permission of one of the children’s parents and made their way to the forest with limited camping gear,” he said.
Inspector Grassick said the 12-year-old boy became separated from the other children and used a mobile phone to call triple-0 for help.
The other children also used their mobile phone to call the police for help.
Inspector Grassick said a number of police vehicles drove along fire trails looking for the children and found the elder two after a one and a half hour search.
“We had the lights and sirens going and they basically guided us to where they were,” he said.
The 12-year-old boy was found one hour later.
All children were found safe and well and returned to their parents.
Inspector Grassick has issued a warning to parents to know where their children are at all times.
“It’s not a good area to go camping and it’s not designed for children of that age to go camping,” he said.
“Be mindful and know where your children are ...[and] ensure they are under supervision.”
