Orange East's wow of a market day

MORE than 5000 people took advantage of yesterday’s great weather as they packed the grounds of Orange East Public School to enjoy the second annual Orange East village markets.

School fundraising officer Erin Child said she was hopeful the event will have raised around $10,000 to be used to build a kitchen at the school where the students can cook what they have grown in the school’s vegetable plots.

“I’m absolutely thrilled with today,” Mrs Child said.

“The weather and the atmosphere was great and people had nothing but positive things to say about it.”

Mrs Child said last year’s inaugural event proved popular so she was pleased to see the event go from strength to strength with plans already underway to stage the same event, at the same time, next year.

Mrs Child said there were around 120 stalls this year, with a variety of goods on offer including plants, clothing, tools, food and face painting.

“I think the music and the kids’ entertainment also brought a lot to the day,” she said.
