Year 12 students around Orange will go on study leave next week ahead of the HSC, which starts on October 15.
THIS time next week hundreds of year 12 students will go on study leave to prepare for the Higher School Certificate (HSC) next month.
The HSC will be held from October 15 to November 8, with students able to access their results online, by telephone or SMS on Wednesday, December 19.
Of the Orange public schools, Orange High School has the highest number of students sitting the HSC, with 130.
Canobolas Rural Technology High School has 57 students sitting the exams, Blayney High School has 39, and Molong Central School has 16.
Of the independent schools, Kinross Wolaroi School has the highest number of students sitting the examination, with 137 students, 61 of which are boarders.
Orange Christian School has 49 students sitting the HSC this year, taking the examination under a compressed system, in whic students’ examinations are split over two years.
The students sit for two HSC exams at the end of Year 11 and four at the end of Year 12.
Orange Christian School executive assistant Catherine Lawrence said the system worked well by taking pressure off students and giving them their first HSC experience in Year 11.
“We find this system works very well for us,” she said.
Orange Anglican Grammar School is preparing to take its first Year 10 students through the system next year, with its first group of HSC students to sit the exams in 2015.
