Cormack had been released from Lithgow Correctional Centre on July 20, however, he was arrested just four weeks later and returned to jail over the alleged offence.

He was represented by legal aid solicitor Peter Ringbauer, who told the court if his client was released he could live with his aunt in Parkes.

After consultation with a family member sitting in the court, Mr Ringbauer said $200 from a social security payment could be posted as security.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Phil Donato opposed bail, saying the accused was on conditional liberty at the time of the offence, when he allegedly yelled at and abused the victim, and drove at speeds of up to 120km/h in Orange.

“During the abuse he said ‘I will run you into a tree’ and ‘I wouldn’t piss on your grave’,” Sergeant Donato said.

“The victim felt she was in fear of losing her life and she was numb with fear.”

Police facts tendered to the court said Cormack and the victim had driven to a centre in Orange where the accused had to undergo mandatory drug testing as part of his probation and parole conditions.

While waiting for the test, Cormack  allegedly received a text message claiming the victim had been unfaithful to him while he was in prison.

When they left the testing centre Cormack began yelling and threatening the victim and the tirade continued as they drove home.

At the roundabout on the corner of William and Dalton streets, police say Cormack deliberately turned the wheel of the car sharply, which caused an oncoming truck to lock up its brakes and run off the road at the busy intersection to avoid a collision.

When Cormack and the victim arrived home, the victim said she had to go to work and drove immediately to Orange Police Station to report the incident.
