On Sunday Musica Viva In Schools’ operatic group, Sounds Baroque, will perform a free public community concert at the Orange Regional Conservatorium. Combining authentic Baroque-era instruments and singing, rich costuming and a rap, this show is a unique experience not to be missed.
Featuring the talented Jennifer Eriksson (Viola da Gamba), Narelle Evans (soprano), David Hidden (baritone) and Raymond Harvey (harpsichord), Sounds Baroque will present Hercules - a performance that utilises a clever combination of theatre, song and comedy to create a mini-opera of epic proportions.
Musica Viva director of business development, education, Colette Vella says Sounds Baroque is the perfect introduction to opera for young and old alike.
“Hercules as told by the wonderful Sounds Baroque ensemble is a modern twist on a classic morality tale. It is certain to have the Orange audience engaged and entertained from beginning to end,” she said.
The show will also allow Orange students the opportunity to perform on stage at the conservatorium.
Sounds Baroque will invite children to be part of the show, giving them the chance to perform the songs they’ve prepared in class with materials from the Musica Viva In Schools Live Performance Plus program.
“As part of the Sounds Baroque music education tour, the children will have been introduced to this ensemble in class,” Ms Vella said. “The performers are excited to share the stage with students and give them the chance to perform in front of a live audience. This is at the heart of what the Musica Viva In Schools program is about; bringing unique musical and performance experiences to children across Australia."
The concert will run from 3pm-4pm.
