A GRAVEL road would be a luxury, according to one Cabonne resident, who believes Lookout Road at Ophir is a safety hazard.

Nick Spicer has lived on the dirt road for the past 30 years.
He said the road was graded annually, but the work did not last long.
“It lasts until the first rain and there’s no material there to fix it properly,” he said.
“It’s got gullies washed through it and across it and you’ve got to slow down to 15 or 20km/h.”
The 77-year-old is downsizing from his 400-acre property and has sold two subdivided sections with the intention of building a house for himself on another small parcel.
However, he said he had difficulty selling his property due to the road’s condition.
“The agent said the road has knocked $100,000 off the value of the house,” he said.
He conceded he had not contacted Cabonne Council about the road’s condition, but said neighbours had tried without success.
“All I’ve done is paid them money,” he said.
“A gravel road is quite adequate, they just have to re-gravel it a bit.”
He did not believe possible council amalgamation would solve the maintenance problems, in fact he thought Cabonne was too big.
A Cabonne Council spokesman said re-sheeting maintenance on Lookout Road was part of this year’s budget and was scheduled for September, depending on weather.
