Goodwin, who is in prison because he breached his parole, appeared in court via audio visual link and blew a kiss to his pregnant girlfriend, who sat in the back of the court.
Legal aid solicitor Peter Ringbauer said his client was making an application for release so he could be with his new partner when their baby was born.
“The baby is actually due today, and he is not a flight risk,” Mr Ringbauer told the court.
Mr Ringbauer went on to say his client was making a bail application as he wanted to be present at the birth of his baby and be involved with the care of the infant when his partner returned home from hospital.
“I will return to custody after the baby is born,” Goodwin said as he made a plea to the magistrate, John Favretto.
However, Mr Favretto noted Goodwin had a prior history of domestic violence.
He then read out details of the charges Goodwin is facing.
“He went to a former partner’s address with a chainsaw and started yelling “I am going to get you, you ...”.
“There was a child inside who was hysterical,” Mr Favretto said.
Mr Favretto said while the request for bail was under unusual circumstances he believed Goodwin would be a threat if released into the community, and refused bail.
Goodwin has a long criminal history, with 11 warrants for his arrest being issued on a total of 46 charges.
These charges included aggravated break and enter, armed with intent, breaches of apprehended violence orders, intimidation, drug supply, using a carriage service to menace and harass, and breach of bail.
Goodwin will reappear in court in October.
