Raising money for needy children will be the focus of Saturday’s Bodyweight Challenge at Anytime Fitness, with registration from 9am to 10am and the competition starting at 10.30am.
Manager Megan Griffin said members of other gyms and the public were welcome to come along to compete or watch the competition, in which competitors must complete as many repetitions as possible of bodyweight exercises push ups, sit ups, squats, tricep dips, chin ups and box jumps in a two-minute period.
Entry costs $10 for competitors with spectators to donate a gold coin, and male and female winners will receive a prize pack containing free membership to Anytime Fitness and items from sponsors Pro Meals and Pump It Fitness.
Miss Griffin hoped to raise “a couple of hundred dollars” and said many in Orange’s fitness community jumped at the chance to help the community.
“I know the fitness industry can be very competitive, but we’re trying to move away from that,” she said.
Every three months the gym holds a fundraising competition and Miss Griffin said this time children were the focus because of a close connection.
“Very recently I had a friend whose little boy was quite sick. I think it’s important not to forget about the younger generations, they need all the help they can get too,” she said.
Miss Griffin said people would be able to vote for which Orange children’s charity the money would be donated to at the competition.
