Participation was very strong with delegates from 11 Australian universities and four international universities taking part.
The Charles Sturt University (CSU) Orange team of six second and third year Bachelor of Agricultural Business Management students and one Master of Agricultural Business Management student enthusiastically participated in a packed program of presentations, interactive workshops, meat judging training and a contest involving the judging of lamb, pork and beef carcasses and primals.
The annual ICMJA program aims to lay down strong foundations for agricultural industries by educating and injecting enthusiastic graduates into a range of diversified careers in the meat and livestock sector.
This vision has once again been backed by key industry sponsors including Meat and Livestock Australia, Australian Meat Processors Corporation and Australian Pork Ltd.
This was the final year of participation from a CSU Orange cohort as internal enrolments for the bachelor of agricultural business management program are now based at CSU Wagga.
A unique positive for the team this year was that all coaches were able to select one team member to undertake a five-day Meat Standards Australia training course in Brisbane, where they will receive a comprehensive introduction to the Australian meat processing sector. This project will benefit this student incredibly and give them knowledge to take back to industry when they graduate from university.
Participation in the ICMJA competition would not be possible for university teams without our generous sponsors. CSU Orange would like to thank Allflex Australia, Top Country Licks, Australian Pork Ltd, Australian Wool Network, Charles Sturt University, The Rocks of Brae and Breakout River Meats Cowra for their generous support.
