Craft is a burgeoning business in Orange and three artisans have banded together to set up monthly craft markets for residents who want to want a regular opportunity to buy homemade gifts.
Karina Gowen of Brie’s Boo Teek, Kerry Rodwell of Lullaby Lane Crafts and Cathryn Asimus of Love That Red will host the first mini monthly craft market this weekend, designed to fill the void left by an irregular schedule of school and community markets.
“Usually with craft, you’ve got markets from around September to April and then nothing in winter,” Mrs Rodwell said.
“People like local handmade items but there’s only a certain number of times per year they can buy them,” added Mrs Gowen.
Twenty-five stallholders selling a variety of items from jewellery, home decor, quilts, soaps, baby items, clothes, small keepsakes and some food items like jams and condiments, will fill the Orange Cultural Centre, which backs onto the Woolworths car park, on Saturday.
Each month stallholders will be rotated to ensure items for sale are constantly changing, and Mrs Gowan said if there is enough interest, the market could expand to include more stall holders in the future.
The market will run from 9am until 2pm on Saturday and entry is a gold coin.
