AFTER the first full cast rehearsal of the Orange Theatre Company’s (OTC) production of Spamalot earlier this week, the cast and production director Nikk Moore are excited about the prospect of being “professional goofballs” on stage.

The production will round out this year’s OTC season, telling the tale of King Arthur’s quest to find the Holy Grail, as inspired by the 1975 comedy film Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
After auditions earlier last month, the lead cast, male and female ensembles, have been announced with Will Ferguson, Nicholas Schmich, Zac Ferguson, David Smyth, Geoff Dwight, Peter Blasom and Katrina Kittler playing the leading roles of King Arthur, Patsy, Sir Gahlahad, Sir Robin, Sir Lancelot, Fred/Herbert and the Lady of the Lake respectively.
Mr Moore anticipates the production will be popular, though tricky to pull off for the cast of 20.
“It is a bit of a dramatic change for the company going from presenting Annie to Spamalot, but we picked it because we thought it would appeal to a huge range of people. Obviously there’s a lot of {Monty] Python fans out there and it is hysterical,” he said.
Mr Ferguson said it was going to be a be hard to pull off.
“While we look like we’re goofing around, there’s lots of singing and dancing to perfect. We actually have to be professional while we look like we’re goofing around.”
Spamalot will be presented from October 16 to 24. Tickets are on sale through Ticketek on 6393-8111.
