The competition involves willing hopefuls performing an original song or cover as a solo or duo act at one of three qualifying nights over the next three Saturdays at the club.
Stand-out performers will go through to the grand final on Saturday, July 25, with $3500 prize money up for grabs.
Sixteen-year-old entrant Tyler Shoobert hopes to follow in the footsteps of last year’s entrants, current The Voice competitor Cath Adams and Athalia Sutherland who sang the national anthem in Wiradjuri atop the Sydney Harbour Bridge on Australia Day.
“I want to build a career in music. I love singing and playing music,” Tyler said.
Tyler is one of up to 15 entrants who will appear at the first audition on Saturday.
Orange City Bowling Club entertainment manager Sara Swain said the competition, in its third year, hadsupported the development of local musicians’ careers by hosting various talent competitions for at least 50 years.
“We’re happy to be giving developing artists a platform on which to perform,” Ms Swain said.
