SOMETHING must be done to repair the state of the Old Canobolas Road to avoid a major accident a concerned Orange resident says.
Michael Davis frequently uses the road to take his wife to work throughout the week and believes the current state of the dirt road is a safety issue, going as far to say if nothing is done to improve driving conditions someone will be seriously injured.
He said he just wants the road grated properly.
But the last time Mr Davis rang to express his concerns about the road with Cabonne Council “the lady just hung up on me”.
“The Cabonne Council is saying that they’re doing work on it all the time, the police have told them it’s okay, but I take my wife to work up there every Tuesday and the road hasn’t been done,” Mr Davis said.
“They were out there early in the year and they improved one section but it wasn’t the worst bit.
“Where the trees hang over the road, the holes are hidden by the shade and it’s dangerous.
“You can’t see them until you’re in them.”
Mr Davis said the only work he has seen done on the dirt road has been the laying of clay in the potholes along the road.
But as soon as it rains or cars use the section of road with the clay the “holes open straight back up”.
“All the dirt just washes away,” he said.
“It needs to be compacted.
“I just want something to be done. The lady at Cabonne just answers the phone and tells me everything is okay but it’s not. The road is supposed to be one of the main access points for the mount. I’m worried about the safety issue.”
Mr Davis said he has had Toyota Yaris for three years and already has been forced to fit four new sets of tyres on the car.
