THE Great Western Hotel in Peisley Street will be renovated if a development application lodged with Orange City Council is approved.
The plans include the construction of additional accommodation in the building next door.
The $400,000 redevelopment will comprise 10 new rooms, including two disabled rooms.
There will also be changes made to the lounge and entertainment areas.
This is the second application submitted, after council’s heritage advisor said a bull-nose verandah included in the original plans would not be suitable, according to Orange City Council town planner Paul Johnston.
“When the initial plans were submitted our heritage advisor felt that a bullnose verandah would not be suitable, so the owner has resubmitted plans to us this time with a skillion [sloping] roof for the verandah,” he said.
“But we expect the verandah to be done in the third stage of the development.
“Many of the changes are also cosmetic and there will be a laundromat located on the ground floor of the new hotel.”
Mr Johnston said an expansion of the beer garden also formed part of the redevelopment.
The owner of the Great Western Hotel declined to comment.
