Following in the footsteps of NBA Championship winner Patty Mills and NBA finallist Matthew Dellavedova, McPhee hopes she can be the next great Australian hope to graduate from the prestigious basketball college.

The 17-year-old, 190cm Lake Ginninderra College student won a scholarship on the back of a strong performance at the national championships.

McPhee, who began playing basketball when she was 12, said that playing basketball in America is something that she has always wanted to do and when the opportunity presented itself it was too good to pass up.

"I have always wanted to go over there [America] for college and when the opportunity presented itself after the nationals I was very excited." McPhee said.

McPhee had plenty of options when choosing a college but said a cross between the location and coaching staff at St. Marys made the decision easy.

"It is a really beautiful campus, the coaching staff and level of players that the school has was really impressive as well… I love San Francisco and could see myself living there so the decision was easy."

The excitement of going to the same school as Australian basketball stars Patrick Mills and Matthew Dellavedova also excited McPhee who will celebrate her 18th birthday this month.

"It will be really cool to go to the same school that Patty [Mills] and Delly [Dellavedova] went too, especially Matt I have been watching him all finals series and I got to meet him at a Boston Celtics game once.

"He [Dellavedova] is a really great player and someone that I admire a lot."

McPhee heads over to America in early January next year and will be doing everything she can to put her best foot forward.

"I just want to play as well as I can in college and then hopefully bring some of the things I learn back to Australia one day.

"Hopefully one day I will be able to play professional basketball in Australia or Europe."

McPhee is set to sign her official documents for the college in November and will begin at St. Marys in early January 2016.
