The students created the play from The Brothers Quibble, a book about sibling rivalry and a young boy’s struggle to accept his baby brother.

The book is featured in this year’s National Simultaneous Storytime where it will be read at preschools, libraries, early learning centres and childcare centres across the country on Wednesday, May 27 at 11am.

Drama teacher Melanie Hope said Fiona Hawke from the library, whose daughter Freya is part of the drama class, got in touch with them about the program and asked them to get involved.

Miss Hope said the performances would take place on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

“The National Simultaneous Storytime is on Wednesday but [Fiona Hawke] asked us to perform at the regional story times,” she said.

“It’s the perfect opportunity for them [the students] to showcase their skills.”

The shows will take place at 11am on each day, with an additional show at 2pm on Thursday.

“We have two different groups performing, one will do Tuesday, Wednesday and two on the Thursday,” Miss Hope said.

“They’ve only been rehearsing a couple of weeks and we’ve tied this into their major assessment, due this week.”

As well as converting the book into a script, two students have also stepped up to direct one group each.

Miss Hope said one of the most challenging aspects was working out stage directions and entry and exit places in a small space at the library.
