BATHURST City notched up their biggest win to date this women's Premier League Hockey season with a 4-1 result over Parkes United at Bob Roach Field on Saturday.
The win, City's fourth of the season, saw them leapfrog Parkes to now be sitting in second on the ladder due to their superior for and against record.
There was good quality offence from City and equally impressive defence from Parkes on display throughout the opening half, which saw Andrea Seymour score the only goal for the hosts.
Both sides fatigued in the second half, but City had the better of the play as they put away three more goals to seal victory.
Seymour's goal came from penalty corner attempt number two for City, 14 minutes into the first half.
Parkes weren't without their share of opportunities in the first half as a Syann Allen went close with her attempt from the top of the circle.
While that chance, and the penalty corner they drew from the play, both went begging, Parkes did make the most of an opportunity early in the second stanza.
Stacey Ross finished off an excellent run through the City half by her team-mate Paige Hay to lock things up at 1-all.
Unfortunately for the visitors, City hit back straight away through Lisa Quinn.
Quinn put the home side up 2-1 as she slotted a penalty corner shot into the bottom left corner of the goal.
City's Jess Hotham was briefly on the field to put her injured back to the test and in that time scored her side's third goal.
Two minutes from full-time a goal-line clearance from Parkes was deemed to have been played off the back of the stick. It sent Seymour to the spot for a penalty stroke and she made no mistake.
Even though three of the game's four goals came in the second half, City coach Quinn thought the better hockey from her team came earlier on.
"It wasn't our best game. The first half we smashed it in and played really well and the second half, I don't know what happened. We weren't purposefully taking our foot off the pedals, but we never seem to gel as well in the second half," she said.
"To not gel as well and still come away with - I'll say 3-1 because Parkes were unlucky with that penalty stroke - at least a two-goal win against the team coming second is just awesome for us.
"It's a goal every week for us to play for 70 minutes and we still haven't quite got that right. We can't afford that. We have got our game structure working and in a way that we want to play the game, and we're certainly doing that every game which is good."
