The former Australian player was part of the 2015 Hogs For Homeless Tour, which raised money for the Father Chris Riley’s Youth Off The Streets.
Fittler, along with league stars Nathan Hindmarsh, Josh Perry and Ian Schubert, was in Orange on March 4 this year as part of the tour.
The calculations have been completed and the Orange leg of the trip proved to be worthwhile, with around $20,000 raised.
“We had a good time raising some money and knocking around with a couple of kids who love footy,” Fittler said of the group’s visit to Orange.
“We really enjoy people who try to create their own energy. They make our job a lot easier, people like Badger.”
Badger Babbage coordinated much of the activities in the Orange area, including a lamb auction at the Central Tablelands Livestock Exchange at Carcoar.
“We raised $15,300 from the sale of the lamb in Carcoar,” Babbage beamed.
Schubert was clearly impressed with the lamb sales.
“That was a cracker,” he said.
“Badger, from Orange, he did one for us last year but we didn’t make it, we just saw the benefits of it. But this year we were there and the sheep sales were fantastic.
“Having us there obviously helped a bit too because we made twice as much money as last year with the same amount of sheep.”
A dinner and auction was also held at Duntryleague with the league stars in attendance.
This also proved to be profitable, with Ian and Rochelle Ashcroft placing the top bid for the NSW Blues 2014 State of Origin jersey.
They then donated back the two 2015 Game One State of Origin tickets to be auctioned off separately, which helped to raise another $750.
This was the third year the Hogs For Homeless tour had been held and there are already plans for a 2016 edition.
Schubert said there was a chance the tour could spend a little more time in the Central West next year.
“Blayney, apparently, is a very strong football area and Grenfell. So we might do a little bit more down here in this central area next year if we can,” he said.
