Rory underwent a liver transplant when he was just 10 months old and now requires constant medication as well as frequent visits to Westmead Children’s Hospital .
The toddler, now 11-months, was diagnosed with the rare liver disease biliary atresia when he was just seven-weeks-old.
Biliary atresia is a blockage of the liver ducts which prevents the flow of bile out of the liver.
A week after his diagnosis, Rory underwent surgery using the Kasai procedure, creating a funnel from the liver into the digestive system.
However, that treatment was unsuccessful and at six-months-old, Rory was put on a recipient list to have the transplant.
All funds generated from Saturday night’s Care for Rory fundraiser at the Orange Ex-Services’ Club will support Rory’s family in paying for his medical costs.
The fundraiser, which has been organised by Jodie Dukes, will be a night full of fun, trivia, auctions and raffles, thanks to the contributions from several businesses.
Rory’s father, Quintyn, said there has been “overwhelming support” for the fundraiser.
“With all the bad that goes on in the world, it’s good to see there are generous people out there,” he said.
“We’re grateful for everyone’s support.”
“Rory’s got a long road ahead.”
Future fundraisers will be posted on the Care for Rory Facebook page. There is also a trust account: BSB: 802129. Account number: 100084197. Account name: Rory John Fisher Trust.
