Hosted by the Canobolas Motorcycle Club (CMC), Driscoll claimed the honours in the Junior 200cc/250cc four stroke under 13-15 event, winning races one and three while finishing second in race two to finish with 102 points.
Wood claimed the win in race two, and finished narrowly behind Driscoll in the opening and final races to sit a close second with 99 points.
Finishing third in each of the three races, Huwan Medcalf rounded out the podium for the round’s premier event, a weekend CMC president Anthony Corby labelled a massive weekend for the club.
“It was a really great weekend,” he said.
“The conditions were fantastic and the racing was great; it was a big weekend for us. When you take into account how many people came to ride, then their families came to support, we were very busy.”
Corby added the success of the racing and the work the committee has put into upgrading the Newhaven Park circuit could result in another round of the NSW Motocross Junior State Titles coming to Orange in 2016.
“Potentially, I know last year a few visitors weren’t happy with how dry it was, but we’ve done a lot of work and I know everyone was surprised to see how well the course went,” he added.
“The feedback from all of the top riders was fantastic.”
In a massive weekend of motocross at the Orange track, Ryder Kingsford proved a dominant force in the Junior 65cc 7-9 years event, winning two of the three races to claim the round two spoils.
Seth Burchell won each of the Junior 50cc division two races to claim maximum points from the Orange leg of the series, which rounds out with fixtures at Port Macquarie, Nowra and Appin, in the south west of Sydney.
Tearing up the Junior 100cc/150cc two stroke 13-15 years event, Riley Dukes won every race he rode in to earn 105 points, as did Tanesha Harnett in the Junior 85cc/150cc two stroke girls’ event.
Cooper Pozniak - in the Junior 100cc/150cc two stroke 15 years and the Junior 200cc/250cc four stroke 15 years - was in stellar form, finishing first in five of the six races he competed in, finishing second in the other, to claim round bragging rights over the majority of his competition.
Reid Taylor (Junior 85cc/150cc four stroke 9-12 years), Jy Roberts (Junior 85cc/150cc four stroke 14-16 years) and Chloe Bowers (Junior 100cc/150cc and 200/250cc four stroke girls) were made to work for their victories, with the biggest margin of the three just nine points.
And, in the Junior 85cc/150cc four stroke 12-14 years event Tyler Darby (100 points) came from one race down to post memorable wins in races two and three to edge out John Bova (99) by just one point in the overall standings.
EVEN on home dirt, it was always going to be a tough ask for Orange’s band of junior motocross stars to match it with the best young dirt bike riders in the state.
But they did just that.
Pushing for a place in the top 10 virtually the entire weekend, Cambell Williams was the best of the Newhaven Park regulars in the Junior 65cc 7-9 years event.
Williams finished 17th in the opening race on Saturday, but stormed back to finish sixth in back-to-back runs to surge to eighth on the overall standings with 63 points.
Williams’ brother Bailee was another strong performer, finishing 15th overall in the Junior 85cc/150cc four stroke 9-12 years, while a consistent Nic Rowlands ended the Junior 50cc division in 12th and Lachlan Madden finished11th after three races in the Junior 200cc/250cc four stroke 15 years category.
