Miss Noonan has committed to undertake the Live Below the Line challenge where she will only spend $2 a day on food for the next five days.
Organised by the youth-run charity Oaktree, the challenge is designed to raise awareness of world poverty and fundraising by partnering with organisations in Asia to help them implement education and vocational training programmes.
“I think this is a simple way to raise awareness of poverty around the globe,” she said.
While Miss Noonan’s friends and family were initially concerned about her eating so cheaply for five days, once she told them what she planned to eat they’ve all been very supportive.
“It’s going to be pretty hard, and I can’t accept any food presents,” she said.
“I think I’ll be bored and hungry by the last day.”
Miss Noonan said she’s already worked out her menu comprising rolled oats and water for breakfast and a stew made from chicken bones, grains and legumes for lunch and dinner.
“I’m also hoping to be able to afford a bit of salt,” she said.
While Miss Noonan said her restricted eating regime will be “eye opening” she hopes the five days will go quickly.
She plans to reward herself with bacon and eggs when it’s all over.
Miss Noonan said a visit from her parents who live in Grafton and have come to Orange to sightsee and eat out may prove her only stumbling block.
“If it’s too hard to go out with them I’ll just sit at home and knit,” she said.
“Five days of my time is really nothing.”
By Friday Miss Noonan had already raised $750 towards her $1000 goal.
