The charity day at Duntryleague Golf Club ties in to the new program Orange PCYC manager Geoff Potts is hoping to establish for young people - a beginners’ golf program.
“Starting new at golf, or SNAG, is an introductory program for kids using plastic golf clubs and a soft tennis ball. It helps teach kids the basics of golf,” Mr Potts said.
“It’s another sport to help kids with their co-ordination, it’s something new to do.”
He said while PCYC had trialled the program during the Easter school holidays, and would do so again, the organisation was hoping to make it a regular fixture on the club’s schedule in term three.
“In the future, we’re looking to be in partnership with Duntryleague to get the kids playing there once they’ve learnt the basics with us,” Mr Potts said.
Mr Potts said he was grateful to the hard-working members of Quota who had supported Orange PCYC for many years, and helped the club through various projects like music scholarships.
The charity golf day will kick off with a shotgun start at noon, and will have an individual stableford format with a Nearest to Pin.
Barbecue and raffles will be held from 5pm. Entry costs $25 and includes food and tea and coffee. Players must have an AGU or AWG handicap to enter.
