Despite being so far away from the disaster zone, the people of Orange have rallied together to collect a range of items including clothing, medical supplies and money, to send to Nepal.
The donations are coming from all sections of the community with children, families, organisations, church groups and businesses all stepping forward to help.
The four Orange Rotary clubs have also joined forces to co-ordinate their fundraising effort while schools all over the city are also doing their best to raise funds.
Senior students from Orange High School, Kinross Wolaroi School and James Sheahan Catholic High School, who were planning to go to Nepal at the end of the year, have several fundraisers planned to help the earthquake victims.
Even students at junior schools are pitching in for a good cause with Catherine McAuley Catholic Primary School members planning a casual clothing fundraiser next Tuesday.
Harris Farm Markets has three staff members from Nepal working in its Orange store and staff there are selling raffle tickets and holding a clothing drive for those affected by the earthquake.
Lolli Redini has also proved an effective collection point for people to drop items for the restaurant’s Nepalese chef to distribute in Nepal next week.
It’s heart-warming to know we live in a community that’s willing to help those in need, no matter how far away they live.
Let’s all give a little if we can, thousands of people have lost their loved ones, their homes and all their belongings.
