Percussion a highlight of band day

THE clash of symbols and the shimmer of tambourines echoed through the Orange Function Centre yesterday as primary school students performed in their percussion groups on the band day hosted by City of Orange Eisteddfod.

A variety of bands from kindergarten to high school performed throughout the day which is considered one of the highlights of the Eisteddfod each year.

Adjudicator Leon Paix spoke to the children in the primary school percussion section congratulating them on their efforts.

“There are two really important things you need to do when you are playing in a group,” he said.

“You need to watch the conductor very carefully and you need to listen.

“One is just as important as the other.”

Today school choirs will perform at Orange Function Centre starting at 9am.

Parents and friends attending are reminded to check their mobile phones are turned off as they are a big distraction to students performing.

Tickets are available at the door.
