Entries can be dropped off at the showground today from 9am to 5pm and craft steward Elaine Connor also picked up items from various craft shops across Orange on Tuesday that have been used as drop-off points.

Hidden Talent sewing shop was one of the drop-off points and owner Carolyn Russell said about 20 craft items had been left there to be entered in the show.

Mrs Russell said she has been entering for five or six years and has entered applique, fabric paint and an art quilt.

Previously she said she had some second and first awards at the show and she also encourages new sewing and quilting students to enter.

“It just encourages people, competition is good, it makes people grow and learn more and try harder and you get more advancement of it too,” Mrs Russell said.

Jean Evers is entering a king size quilt this year and said she has been making them for about two and half years.

However, there will also be several beginners entering the craft section this year including Dawn Davis and Chelsea Forte, 9.

Chelsea said she was given a sewing machine for her birthday and asked for sewing lessons, which led to her making her quilt Butterflies in the Garden.

“This is my first one,” she said.

“At first it was, [hard] now it’s easier.

“I just felt like I needed to [enter the show] because I wanted everyone to see what I have made.” 

Mrs Davis said she was also still learning how to quilt but decided to enter so there would be more variety at the show.

“It’s not about winning but to give people something to look at,” she said.
