The Lions will head to Dubbo on Saturday to take on defending premiers Dubbo Kangaroos.
The Lions and the ‘Roos won their opening round matches last Saturday but in very different ways.
Orange City ran riot over Parkes, putting on 12 tries to win 78-5.
In Narromine, the ‘Roos scored a solid 39-11 first-up victory over the Gorillas.
Gray said his side wasn’t reading too much into their opening win.
“We’ve put it into perspective in that Parkes were underdone and undermanned,” Gray said.
“If we’d only won by one point like last year then we would have taken from it that we were underdone.”
Of course it’s nice to win, but the co-coach would like to see his players challenged this week.
“We’re hoping for a bit stiffer opposition,” he said.
“Dubbo are a good side but it’s hard to read into it with Narromine because we’ve heard they were underdone.
“It will be hard up there, so our blokes won’t be taking it easy.”
Gray caught up with former Orange City hooker Josh Tremain at Central West training last Sunday, but the Roos’ No.2 didn’t give much away about his new side.
The Lions will make one change to their starting line up tomorrow, with Sam Coote starting at outside centre after Sam Powell returned to the Central Coast.
Gray believes Coote is joining a strong backline.
“That’s probably our strength at the moment, our attacking backline, so as long as our forwards can hold their own and lay the platform, we should go well,” he said.
After a relatively easy win last week, Gray said the side had used this week to continue to cement their attacking structures and to work on their defence.
