Derek Johns

Where do you stand on:

Rates:

Rates are too high. Keep rates at the same level for five years and include a 10 per cent rebate for pensioners.

Would you ever vote for a special rate increase above the cap set by the state government? No

Conservation versus development: Has council got the balance right?

Nearly, a balance of development and conservation needs to be maintained. All developments should be assessed on their own merits. It is impossible to blanket judge all DA applications.

Macquarie pipeline: Would you vote to halt the pipeline project? (yes or no) No

What major capital works do you think Orange needs?

A multipurpose facility designed to accommodate the showground, racetrack and pacing track.

Youth facilities.

What projects or facilities would you forego to fund them if necessary?

Before the start of any major capital works it would be prudent to try and secure funding for such projects from either federal or state governments. If adequate funding is obtained council's contribution will be minimised and will negate the necessity to forego any other projects.

Successes of the  previous council? (list up to four)

Securing funding from state and federal governments for the Macquarie River pipeline.

Anzac Park opening.

Stormwater harvesting.

Spring Creek dam.

Failures of the previous council? (list up to four)

Meeting the public’s expectations on the timing of capital projects.

What are your policy priorities?

Long-term water security for Orange (Macquarie River pipeline)

Raising Suma Park Dam wall and increasing stormwater harvesting)

Start of southern feeder road.

Sustainable growth in Orange to support increased employment opportunities.

Are you in favour of: (yes or no)

A full-time mayor: No

Direct election of the mayor by voters: No
