The Rotary Club of Orange North is expanding on its annual Anzac Day club dinner; inviting members of the public to join it in commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Galipolli landings and raising money to support Orange Legacy.
The dinner will be held at 6.15pm for 7pm at Orange Ex-Services Club.
The boosted program includes a performance by the Orange Male Voice Choir; a presentation by Central West Libraries manager Jan Richards about the A City Remembers project; a talk by members of the Coo-ee March 2015 Association and their plans to re-enact the event later this year; and the telling of soldiers’ stories via DVD.
Rotary Club of Orange North president Austin Morgan wants to ensure such an important occasion is recognised appropriately, and by as many as possible.
“The Anzac legend is now so important for Australia ... I remember in the ‘60s when they thought that the memories and stories of the Anzacs would die out. They’re not going to die out, it’s getting bigger all the time,” he said.
“This is one of the more important things that’s going to happen in Australian communities this year. Rotary is a community-based club so it’s important to share together.”
Tickets cost $50 each, which includes a three-course meal, and are available from the Orange Ex-Services’ Club up until Friday.
