This year’s NYW theme, It All Starts With Us is something that is happening during each of the 10 events, Orange City Council youth development officer Katrina Hausia said.
She said young people have been integral in the organisation of Youth Week events such as tonight’s “Underground Sound”, a Waste2Art workshop on Friday, and Saturday’s youth concert.
“It really is the epitome of Youth Week. We have young people coming in and running it. It’s great,” Ms Hausia said.
Along with young people leading by example, service groups and mentors are donating their time, money and passion to benefit the wider community.
“It has come together with people who are wanting to donate their time and people who would like to be role models or give back to the community as well as leaders of tomorrow all happy to contribute,” Ms Hausia said.
“This is a platform for an idea that they’ve had ... it’s about making a positive difference.”
The annual NYW is the largest celebration of people aged 12 to 25 in Australia. Celebrations started in Orange on Sunday with the Dye Hard Fun Run and ends with a Youth Week Dinner next Tuesday.
