Getting to this point has required a huge effort from all over the central and far west to raise funds, however at the heart of that fundraising has been an Orange-based board that has steered the project with incredible drive and passion for over a decade.
It is predominantly an Orange-based core of volunteers who are making themselves available 24-hours a day, seven days a week to help out at the house in a variety of ways, including providing an overnight role which is no mean feat.
The people of Orange should feel justifiably proud of their efforts as a great deal of the fundraising so far has been borne in this community.
This is the same generous community that raised millions to help build Western Care lodge for cancer patients who come from outside the area.
Orange’s Ronald McDonald House is unique in that it is the only one in Australia that provides accommodation for families who have a child or adolescent being treated at our mental health facility.
These children and their families will come from an area that covers three quarters of the state.
At Orange’s magnificent Ronald McDonald House nothing has been left to chance.
From tooth fairy pillows for little ones who lose a tooth while staying in the house, to supported homework programs, books, toys and a secure indoor play area - it’s all there and more.
The volunteers and staff at the house have had an exhausting few weeks taking part in working bees, undergoing training, giving the house a final clean and putting everything in place and so now it is time to a take a bow.
