Hundreds of people traditionally join in the symbolic journey through the Orange Botanic Gardens, hosted by the parish of St Mary’s and St Joseph’s, visiting 14 stations which commemorate key sites where Christ stumbled and fell as he was led to his crucifixion.
Devoted St Mary’s and St Joseph’s parishioner Pat Frecklington said Good Friday is an ideal time for Christians to reflect and celebrate the life of Jesus and connect with God.
“Having the event at the botanic gardens, away from churches, makes it an open and welcoming place for everybody to take part,” Mr Frecklington said.
“We encourage people to reflect and pray at each of stations.”
The pilgrimage begins at 10.30am on Friday, and will take a little over an hour.
A group will also leave from St Joseph’s Church, corner of Byng and Hill streets, for an extended walk at 9.30am.
