“I’d like to think so, even if I haven’t played a final yet,” he laughed, seeing the lighter side of being left out of Victoria’s side for the Shield final, which the Bushrangers won.

“I was in the squad at NSW when we won last season, and then again after I moved to Victoria this season.

“I would have loved to have played in the final, but that’s cricket, and I believe wholeheartedly it wasn’t just the final 12 which won the Shield, it was the entire Victorian squad.”

Just one season after finishing last, the Bushrangers held the Shield aloft for the 29th time last Wednesday after Matthew Wade (9 not out) and David Hussey (37 not out) saw off a nervy final period to secure a draw - all Victoria required to win after finishing on top of the table - against a gallant Western Australia.

“It was tough not to be envious of the guys who have the winning medallions, but Shippy (Bushrangers coach Greg Shipperd) was always very firm in his belief that these seasons are full squad efforts. The celebrations were certainly squad oriented anyway,” Tremain laughed.

“It’s an amazing feeling for all of us, although I could barely watch the last stages of the game I was so nervous. 

“For me, it was great to see David Hussey there at the end. He’s won four Shields now and none of us could think of a better way for him and Shippy to finish their Victorian careers.”

Tremain played just six first class games across two seasons with NSW, and made the decision to move south of the border in search of more opportunity in 2014-15.

It came, with the 23-year-old playing seven games this season alone, taking 16 wickets and scoring 49 runs.

“I would have loved to take more wickets and scored more runs obviously, but I’m pretty happy with how I’ve performed this season,” Tremain said.

“I felt like I was a pretty vital cog in a very successful year, and contributed a lot. Fingers crossed it’s the start of a long career for Victoria.”

Still winding down from the celebrations, Tremain said he plans to try and fit in a holiday prior to the 2015-16 pre-season, after minor surgery on his foot.

“I’ve got a bit of a bone spur that needs to be taken out, it’s nothing major,” he said.

“I’d have loved to take a long holiday but it might just be down to the Yarra valley with my girlfriend, wine country, I think.”
