Orange scored its biggest win in State League history, and equalled the biggest ever win in the competition, with a 97-17 demolition job on the Mittagong Lions at Orange Tenpin Bowl on Sunday.
The victory was also Orange’s second on the trot, helping the Warriors keep a firm grasp on their top four spot.
“We’re ecstatic,” Orange skipper Jason Brown said.
“It’s Orange’s record, and the equal best in the competition. It really was just a great team effort. Our goal first up was just to win our games, but then we thought about the bonus point once you get 87 points, so we aimed for that.
“I don’t think any of us thought we’d go so much further than that.”
Orange dominated from start to finish, opening the clash with a 28-10 win in the singles, before smashing the Lions 38-0 in the doubles - including Brown’s match-high 297.
“I just fell a few pins short,” he laughed.
The misery continued for Mittagong in the teams section, which the Warriors claimed 27-7 to round out a clinical victory.
“We all averaged over 200 as well,” Brown said.
Jason Osborne topped the count with a 217 average, Mark Holle was next best with 215 while Brown and Jacob French both averaged 213.
Keryn Delaney and Luke Cooper played their roles, averaging 206 and 205 respectively.
Brown said the victory puts Orange in good stead with two away trips scheduled next month.
“We’re starting to gel, and we’re definitely on a roll at home, we just need to transfer that to away games,” he said.
“Playing three rounds in about a month helped, but now we’ve got a break until the end of April, when we’ll have a double header with Newcastle on Saturday and Gosford on Sunday.
“That will be a real test for us.”
