ORANGE Little Athletics members won’t have to travel to take on some of the best in the state this season.
Orange will host the NSW Little Athletics Multi-Class Championships in March next year.
The event is a huge boost for the season, which will start in October.
Orange Little Athletics president Michelle Whiteley said the championships were an exciting competition.
“We’ll have clubs from all around NSW descending on us,” Whiteley said.
“There are five events in track and field and you accumulate points. The person with the most points wins. It’s a bit like a heptathlon.”
Whiteley said being given the NSW event was a nice acknowledgement for the club.
“Orange is the biggest regional club outside Sydney,” she said.
“We’ve got a good thing going. We’ve got good committee people and lot of enthusiastic volunteer parents. Michael Gray has done a lot of great work the last few years.”
The Orange club had 350 members last season and Whiteley is expecting similar numbers this time around or even more due to the Olympics potentially creating interest.
Orange Little Athletics are now taking registrations online at www.orangela.org.au.
The club will have sign on days on September 9 and 16 between 2-4pm at Waratahs Sports Club.
An orientation and collection day will be held on Sunday, October 7.
The first competition night will be on Friday, October 12 at 5.45pm.
