Donors are required to donate between April 2 and April 9 to ensure there are enough platelets, the shortest-lived blood product, in stock at hospitals across the region during the holiday period.
Donor John Cook, who has donated 56 times, encouraged everyone to roll their sleeves up.
“It’s important to do it. Supplies get lower at this time of the year. A lot of people depend on it,” Mr Cook said.
“It doesn’t take you that long, it doesn’t hurt or anything. You never know when you might need it yourself.”
Cancer patients are the most at-risk patients due to their dependency on platelets, tiny disc-shaped cells found in blood, which have a shelf life of just five days.
Blood Service spokesperson Erin Clarke said finding donors around Easter was always a challenge for the service, but said the reward was priceless.
“The need for blood never stops and every blood donation will help save three lives,” Ms Clarke said.
“If you are unable to donate, join us on the hunt by encouraging family and friends to donate.”
Those wishing to donate over the Easter period can visit the Orange donor centre at 84 Kite Street on Thursday, April 2 from 9am until 5pm, Tuesday, April 7 from 7.30am until 2pm, Wednesday, April 8 from 11am until 6pm and Thursday, April 9 from 11am until 7pm, call 13 14 95 or visit www.donateblood.com.au.
The donor centre will be closed from Good Friday until Easter Monday.
