About $7000 was raised when Team Janine members, Donna Blimka, Karli McDonell, Sam Vennard and Fleur Vardanega shaved their heads to support their friend, who is receiving treatment for a rare form of breast cancer.
Mrs Caughlan’s twin daughters Amy and Maddy also got involved with one colouring her hair and the other having half her head buzzed and the breast cancer logo shaved into it.
About 300 people attended the head shave fundraiser and Mrs Blimka said once all the money from the day was counted and added to money that had previously been raised she expected it would amount to about $10,000.
“It was very overwhelming,” Mrs Blimka said.
“We were really happy with the reception, I couldn’t believe how well it went.”
She said Mrs Caughlan attended the head shaving event but wanted the money to go to cancer services at Orange hospital.
“She is doing really well, she’s got 12 weeks of treatment to go and has been through eight weeks of chemo.
“It’s a very long process but she’s getting through it, she’s so strong.”
Mrs Blimka said she only shaved her head because Mrs Caughlan was such a close friend.
“They said Janine is going to lose her hair and I felt, if you are going to lose it then I will lose it, and we went from there and had lots of help from a lot of people,” she said.
