The exhibition will roll into town in March 2017 and take pride of place in the new showground pavilion, due for completion next year.
Mayor John Davis could not hide his delight that Orange had been chosen to house the travelling exhibition, which profiles Australia’s involvement in WWI and the centenary of Australian armed forces’ service in all wars.
“It’s one of the biggest exhibitions to come to Orange,” Cr Davis said.
“It will be one of the first big users of that facility [the pavilion].
“It’s absolutely tremendous that Orange has been picked as one of the 23 sites.
“The closest other site to Orange is Sydney.”
Cr Davis expects the exhibition, featuring visuals, artefacts, audio and film, to be a drawcard not just for local residents but also those living beyond Orange.
“There will be a lot of people from the whole region, not just the Orange region, [from] Bourke, Wagga and Lithgow, coming to look at this, especially after the Anzac Centenary,” Cr Davis said.
Cr Davis said news of the exhibition comes at a time when the city is set to unveil upgrades to the cenotaph.
“I’m very, very impressed and excited with the end result there,” Cr Davis said of the work at the cenotaph.
