Among the eight cars on offer are a 2004 Kia Rio, a 2003 Ford Falcon XT and a 2000 Mitsubishi Magna - the remainder are ‘80s and ‘90s models.
Corporate and community relations manager Nick Redmond said residents complained to council from time to time about cars parked in streets for weeks at a time.
“There are a wide range of reasons why a car might be abandoned, so council staff make consistent attempts to contact the owner and ask for the car to be moved off the street,” he said.
“If there’s no response after a reasonable period of time, council takes the car for storage at the works depot.”
Mr Redmond said sometimes the car’s removal prompted a response from the owner, otherwise they were sold.
Cars are purchased by tender two or three times a year and purchasers must do their own research.
“It’s up to potential new owners to look closely at the cars and make a judgement about their condition,” Mr Redmond said.
“They are not offered with any warranty.”
Unsold cars may be taken to the Resource Recovery Centre or donated to Fire and Rescue NSW teams for training exercises.
Offers must be submitted to council by 11am on Tuesday, April 7.
